LUCHINO VISCONTI’s RECORD BREAKER RETROSPECTIVE ENDS ITS TOUR IN LOS ANGELES, AT THE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE

The great success of the retrospective dedicated to Luchino Visconti continues. Produced by Luce Cinecittà, organized by Camilla Cormanni and Paola Ruggiero, the retrospective has offered to the American public the chance to admire all the director’s masterpieces, starting from the recently restored films, Death in Venice and Ossessione, and the re-print from the original negative of a new 35mm copy of Ludwig, in the version never seen by Visconti, who was forced to cut it.

After the Harvard Film Archive, the Lincoln Center in New York, where it was the most successful retrospective in its history, the TIFF in Toronto, the BAMPFA in Berkeley, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, the tour ends Los Angeles at the American Cinematheque ( February 7 – March 31, 2019). Special guest of this last stage in LA is Joanna Lancaster, Burt Lancaster’s daughter, who introduces the screenings of Il Gattopardo (The Leopard) and Conversation Piece.
